Body Positive

Logo for Body Positive

Created as a response to the HIV crisis in the 1980’s and founded by HIV positive people, Body Positive is New Zealand’s leading support organization for people living with HIV/AIDS and those people at the lower end of the socioeconomic income scale. We aim to create a strong, united community in which our members feel the resolve to both take control of their lives personally and feel involved in the discussion and handling of HIV in New Zealand at both the population and governmental levels. Our services and programmes are designed to maximise and improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS by providing a wide range of services including: treatment information, medical support, counselling and peer support, a psychiatrist clinic, a podiatrist clinic, budgeting services, a WINZ clinic at our premise, and a drop in centre for members with internet accessibility. We work to provide support to our community, improve education and the dissemination of information surrounding risk, diagnosis, etc., and to diminish the effect of stigmas associated with being HIV positive.
