Background Information - YSAR Trust YSAR Trust is an independent, non-profit, charitable trust, first established in 2009 in Tauranga. Activities have now expanded across NZ. Since 2009, more than 550 students have graduated from the three-year YSAR program and currently, 175 students are enrolled, contributing 600 hours of their own time each year. The training is a combination of weekly classroom theory and planned weekend outdoor exercises, including bushcraft, search methods, and Incident Management. Students learn the skills required to rescue individuals from a range of situations and are involved in gathering information that can be used by other organizations involved in search and rescue and emergency management. YSAR is a well-recognized innovation hub in the Search and Rescue sector and is now supported at a Government Level as a key future workforce capability tool. Partnerships YSAR is a member of NZSAR sector and an associate group of Land Search and Rescue New Zealand. Under this agreement, LandSAR contributes to the costs of delivering some of the 130 training modules and YSAR undertakes research and development of advanced technology solutions for future use by search and rescue and emergency management teams. The result is improved safety for all New Zealanders. Strategic partners provide mutual benefit - YSAR provides a testbed for innovation and technology with students and can promote themselves as valuing social enterprise. In return students are fully immersed in the latest technology and ideas at the forefront of innovation which can significantly enhance Search and Rescue and Emergency Response. YSAR is focused on developing robust and long-term strategic partners, particularly those that will provide: 1. Access to opportunities for students and supporters  2. Collaboration in research and development   3. Access to new technologies and IP  4. Recognition of YSAR and the Search and Rescue sector 5. Expanded geographic reach  6. Shared resources  7.
