To build, strengthen and promote positive relationships between youth, adults and families by facilitating positive and rewarding mentoring relationships within our community. Community-based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters relationship. It happens after school or on the weekend. It’s all about an adult volunteer (over 18) and a young person (aged between 6 - 12) spending one-to-one time together doing things they both enjoy – one or more hours a week. Most sessions take place in the community, at a library, a park, the beach or at other free facilities. When Big Brothers Big Sisters partners a young person with a role model, we start something special: a one-to-one relationship built on trust and friendship that can blossom into a future of unlimited potential. The children you are matched with are not high needs children, but are the ones who just need that bit of extra support and attention due to circumstances beyond their control. They are often the children that can just fly under the radar due to their situation. Big Brother/Big Sister Mentors are positive role models who offer support, friendship and fun to a young person. By giving a small amount of your time each week, you can make a big difference in the life of a young person. Throughout the match, both mentor, mentee and child's caregiver will be supported via our Mentor Coordinators who will be available for contact and support at any time.
