Special Olympics Volunteer

Special Olympics Wellington managed by Volunteer Wellington

Logo for Volunteer Wellington

Being a Special Olympics volunteer is both fun and extremely rewarding. You don't have to be sporty to volunteer, even as a coach! Many of our coaches are family members of Special Olympics athletes and learned to coach 'on the job'. The right attitude is more important.

Coaches and volunteers are an integral part of what we do. There are around 35 Special Olympics volunteers in Wellington and we're always on the look-out for more. With your help, we can reach even more people with an intellectual disability.

We can offer you the chance to make a positive difference in the lives of people with an intellectual disability, plus the chance to make friends and learn new skills. There's also the possibility of travel within New Zealand and overseas, supporting representative teams.

Choose your area of interest or expertise:

  • Assisting with sports coaching in one of our sports: Athletics, Basketball, Bocce, Swimming, Ten Pin Bowling, Equestrian and Snow Sports (and Football if we can find a volunteer to start it up)
  • Fundraising, publicity and local committee activities
