Hospice Whanganui is only partially funded by government, over 20% of our funding comes from the income we raise through our retail shops, our retail volunteers are all contributing to providing palliative care to the wider Whanganui community.

• Our three shops have plenty of volunteering opportunities, from sorting and pricing to customer service, minor repairs of small items (not electrical) and basic testing of appliances, stocking the shops and creating window displays. We have specialty areas including books, toys, electronics, retro fashion, home décor, jewellery, linen, furniture, and more.

• Our shop assistants come from all walks of life and we encourage anyone interested in volunteering to contact us to find out more about our opportunities. Our shop volunteers usually work regular 3-4 hours long shifts but we have flexibility to match your needs, and you can be with us for a few months or choose to stay with us for decades!

• We have a full introduction to Hospice Whanganui in our orientation sessions, followed by morning tea, and we have regular social events, as well as our volunteer newsletter full of interesting info and stories.
