Youth Mentoring

He Kahui Tangata Trust supported by Volunteer Great Lake Taupō

He Kāhui Tāngata Mentoring are looking for volunteer mentors who can dedicate a couple of hours each week to spend supporting, guiding and empowering a young person in a one on one setting.

You will be matched with a young person aged between 9-13 years old. Over time building a trusting, positive relationships through weekly interactions. Mentoring can take place at a school, in the community, or in a safe, comfortable environment tailored to the young person's needs.

Key Tasks & Activities

  • Meet your mentee weekly for up to two hours per week(either school-based or in the community)
  • Engage in companionship, conversation, shared activities or a listening ear
  • Support their wellbeing, confidence, aspirations and connection to community

Ideal Mentor Traits

Aged 18 or older

Caring, patient, and reliable

Good listener with empathy and emotional maturity

Committed to weekly contact for a minimum of a year

Able to pass a police background check

Hold a current full licence

Purpose & Impact

This role supports vulnerable rangatahi by providing consistent, positive mentoring. The relationship helps them feel seen, heard, and empowered. Help with building resilience and community connection.

Time Commitment Up to two hours per week, consistently for a minimum of 12 monthes. Flexibility encouraged but reliability is key.
